Top 5 Ways To Save On A Disney Cruise

When researching ways to save on your Disney Cruise, there is a lot of information out there.

If you’re anything like me, you want to know what ways you can save on your vacation and want it laid out very simply.

So I’ve done the research for you and compiled the top 5 ways I found to save on a Disney Cruise with an insider’s bonus for all of you stay-at-home moms.

As with anything, I found common ways to save showing up everywhere and the top 5 are:

5. Book with a reputable authorized Disney Cruise travel Agent

Not all travel agents are created equal!

Disney Cruise travel agents know a lot of the best deals out there.

If it is your first cruise, it’s best to go ahead and use one.

They don’t cost anything for you to use, so you only benefit from them.

Be sure to check on a couple/few and book with the one you feel the most comfortable with.

Some of them specialize in actual Disney Cruises and the others may specialize in all types of cruises.

I’d say to check both and book with your favorite.

One that I spoke with that didn’t specialize in Disney Cruises didn’t seem to have all the answers I was looking for but that’s not to say all of them are like that.

The main way you save with travel agents is getting shipboard credits to use towards alcoholic beverages, or gift baskets.

When I called Disney Cruise directly, the price between the travel agent and Disney directly was only $9.

They do offer to book your flight as well, but I would encourage you to look at flights yourself as well.

If Spirit airlines is an option, you can get REALLY great rates with them.

The main downfall with Spirit is that there’s usually just 1 time option a day so you’ve gotta way out the price difference if you have to get a hotel.

4. Charge it on a Disney Visa

Disney has 2 Visas, one is a Disney Premier card and the other is a Disney Rewards card.

I know, I’m not advocating more debt here, at all…but there is value here on what you will invest in a Disney cruise.

The Disney premier has more benefits to it and is $49/year.

The Disney Rewards card has fewer benefits and there is no annual fee.

Boils down to how much do you charge a month to know whether or not it’s worth the $45/year.

If you’re charging your gas, groceries, utilities, restaurants… then it’s probably worth it and the points will add up faster to go on your family Disney Cruise.

It may even completely pay for it!

Plus, when you use your Disney Rewards card and you’re going on the cruise, you can use those points to start planning your trip to Disney World!

3. Last minute planning

If you don’t mind not having the best room, you could possibly get a great LAST MINUTE deal. (not my style but does work for many)

They are usually 3-10 weeks out and check on restricted stateroom or “Restricted Guarantee” staterooms.

It’s listed on the website as IGT (interior stateroom with restrictions), OGT (ocean view state room with restriction) and VGT (veranda stateroom with restrictions), these are great for last minute cruisers.

But I only recommend it for VERY flexible people because…

  • You can’t be picky about your stateroom or location they assign you
  • It’s for new bookings only
  • Gotta have the entire cost of cruise sitting in your bank account to book GT rates
  • Realize it is non-refundable, non-transferable & non-negotiable
  • Maximum of 4 party members

If you are picky, I’ve gotta tell you that last minute booking you’re probably not going to be satisfied with.

2.  Book really REALLY far in advance

When Disney Cruise lines release the dates of their cruises, they tend to be cheaper with being so far out.

Cruises book about a year or so out.

As soon as they start booking up, supply & demand kicks in.

Plus, they only allow so many children on the cruise and that books up first.

When I called Disney Cruise lines direct number and asked for the price the following month, it was $5,189.00.

For the same room booked a year from that date it was $3,149!

So it definitely pays to plan ahead.

1.  Take your kids out of school

This goes for just about any vacation.

If you can go while kids are in school, it’s going to be less crowded and far less expensive.

The best months to go on your Disney Cruise are September, October, first half of December, January and April.

Basically all months that kids don’t have any days out of school.

If you’re in a school district that freaks out about taking kids out of school, I’ve heard of extreme cases of withdrawing the kids from school and re-enrolling them.

Drastic times calls for drastic measures!

In addition to using these top 5 ways to save on a Disney Cruise, what I have done as a stay-at-home mom to MAKE SURE that my family got the experience of a lifetime is I actually funded the trip!

Yup, I made $14,923.47 to fund our family of 6 Disney Cruise with two connecting rooms!

Wondering how I did it as a stay-at-home mom?

Well I got to the point that I was honestly tired of having to ask my husband for money just to get my hair and nails done and was presented with an opportunity to work part-time from home.

At the time, my husband was not on board because we had 4 kids under the age of 6 and had I had NO EXTRA TIME.

I decided if I ever wanted to have the time and money, that I needed to run with it.

So I did AND I paid for our ENTIRE Disney Cruise!

NEVER in my wildest dreams did I think that could EVER happen.

And I have helped lots of other moms like you obtain similar goals in their life.

What I’ve also REALLY liked is finding myself.

Getting to be a stay-at-home mom was my dream and once it actually happened it was almost a be careful what you wish for type of thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids and so grateful that I get to stay at home with them, but I had lost myself.

I was a mom, a wife, a table leader, a member of moms group.

I wore yoga pants everyday…not to mention they were the same ones, lol.

Working part-time from home helped me have my own identity and get connected with other moms with big goals.

It showed me a whole nother world I wasn’t aware of.

If you would like the same thing, I’d love to connect with you to see if working from home is right for you too.
